Wilderness
This remote, rugged area is located within the Selway-Bitteroot Wilderness, between the beautiful Selway and Lochsa Rivers in North Central Idaho. The exclusive outfitting rights in the region are assigned to Tim Craig and Boulder Creek Outfitters (BCO). In fact. Tim is one of only three outfitters since the 1920’s to outfit in this area, testifying to its ability to produce numerous trophy animals and therefore one of the best outfitters in the country. Last year alone resulted in a 360 class archery bull, and over the last few years, numerous 300 class bulls and some 320 and 340 class bulls.
Hunting in this designated wilderness area will be conducted from horseback and on foot. Camps will be wall tents complete with carpet flooring, wood and propane heat, and cots with foam pads for your comfort. This steep and rugged country is at elevations between 2700-7200 feet, therefore, physical fitness will be a factor in your success. Because the area was designated wilderness in 1964, it has never been logged or roaded.
These hunts are eight days, with one guide assigned per two hunters unless a one guide per one hunter option is arranged. Our guides are some of the best and hardest working in the country, increasing your chances of a productive hunt. Guide service includes camping and packing of harvested animals, transportation from camp to town for processing, and referral to professional taxidermy service, if requested. BCO is very proud of producing trophy animals and quality hunts year after year. The vastness of our area and gaming variety allows us to selectively hunt our area, thereby sustaining mature trophy elk and deer.
Sept. fly-in bugle hunt, unit 17
We are a select few in the country who have a trophy fly-in rifle bugle hunt. This unique experience includes a flight with an experienced back country pilot from Orofino, Idaho, into an airstrip in the wilderness. From there, a three hour horseback ride will deliver you to some of the west’s most impressive country and fantastic hunting. This will be an exciting hunt with elk calling and spot and stalk the main modes of hunting. The season is over 60 days long, however, only three eight day hunts are offered to insure quality animals for future hunts.
Oct. and Nov. pack-in-hunt, unit 12
A three and a half hour horseback ride through breathtaking scenery will put you in a comfortable tent camp in unit twelve. This area traditionally produces some of our best bull elks and some nice deer as well. The weather this time of year can be unpredictable, therefore a fresh blanket of snow can add to the beauty as well as productivity of your hunt. We really look forward to this hunting trip because it results in great hunts for our clients every year.
Additionally, a drop camp in unit twelve can be arranged. Hunters will be dropped off at their own fully furnished camp. This is an unguided camp, with a packer checking your camps regularly and packing out your game meat and trophy.
We also offer a new camp set-up which we call our semi-guided camp, having one guide for four to six hunters. The guide will be available for the morning hunt and reserves his afternoons for camp chores, meal preparation, etc. On this hunt, hunters will pitch in with camp chores which significantly reduces the hunt costs for our clients. These are done on a group basis, so you are able to hunt with your own party exclusively.
